The way she is

Ayse goes everywhere with her parents and has done so from an early age. On weekdays she visits an institution attended by others with a mental handicap. She speaks fluent Dutch and Turkish, but she can’t read or write. She can however compose poetry.

The main protagonist Ayse has a Turkish background, but her story is relevant in a broader sense. The film shows how she got to where she is now. What’s it like to grow up with a limitation? And what’s it like for the people around her?
